Try New Techniques: Experimenting with new materials, styles, or subjects can reignite your creativity. We can see that one bar is longer than another almost instantaneously, without conscious thought. Perhaps the most important process for me, however, has been learning to think with my hands. Dividers and tabs can be created with printable templates too. How does the brand write? Is the copy witty and irreverent? Or is it formal, authoritative, and serious? Is it warm and friendly, or cool and aspirational? We had to write sample copy for different contexts—a website homepage, an error message, a social media post—to demonstrate this voice in action. I started reading outside of my comfort zone—history, psychology, science fiction, poetry—realizing that every new piece of information, every new perspective, was another potential "old thing" that could be connected to something else later on.
