A personal value chart is an introspective tool, a self-created map of one’s own moral and ethical landscape. It's about building a fictional, but research-based, character who represents your target audience. One of the most frustrating but necessary parts of the idea generation process is learning to trust in the power of incubation. The cost is our privacy, the erosion of our ability to have a private sphere of thought and action away from the watchful eye of corporate surveillance. The first and most significant for me was Edward Tufte. To learn to read them, to deconstruct them, and to understand the rich context from which they emerged, is to gain a more critical and insightful understanding of the world we have built for ourselves, one page, one product, one carefully crafted desire at a time.
