The typography was whatever the browser defaulted to, a generic and lifeless text that lacked the careful hierarchy and personality of its print ancestor. It is a physical constraint that guarantees uniformity. I no longer see it as a symbol of corporate oppression or a killer of creativity. A digital chart displayed on a screen effectively leverages the Picture Superiority Effect; we see the data organized visually and remember it better than a simple text file. The reason this simple tool works so well is that it simultaneously engages our visual memory, our physical sense of touch and creation, and our brain's innate reward system, creating a potent trifecta that helps us learn, organize, and achieve in a way that purely digital or text-based methods struggle to replicate. Subjective criteria, such as "ease of use" or "design aesthetic," should be clearly identified as such, perhaps using a qualitative rating system rather than a misleadingly precise number.
